NJ DUI records (read below)?

My dad got his first DUI ticket in 1985.
His second DUI ticket was in 1991.
His third DUI was in March 2009.
The problem is that in the most recent DUI in 2009, he had an accident for hitting a fire hydrant.

question:
Would his third offense count as his first offense on his license record because it happened after 10 years?

From reading it I would say yes……….

Well, it is not his “2nd offense within 10 years” or his “3rd offense within 10 years of 2nd offense”, so it seems to be a first offense, by process of elimination.

You’re splitting hairs here; 3 DUIs in 15 years is not good. Your dad needs some professional help.
