Image by me and the sysop we went to the post office today to mail the request for my driving record. i’ve got to get that along with my defensive driving certificate in order to get my speeding ticket dismissed.
i don’t know if i ever mentioned that. i made the cop chase me, though. there was heavy traffic, but he was on a motorcycle. i knew he could handle it. i just kept speeding along for a couple miles before he caught me.
anyhoo, i accidentally put my change into the bulk machine. oops. so i tried to get it back only to find the machines don’t provide change without purchase. the result? 50 one-cent stamps. yay. this is my poutty, oh my god i’m an idiot, face. ;(

For the override select switch, what would confuse other drivers?
No, that’s the point of the override switch. If we need to switch to the left on the wire but drive straight on the road, using our left turn signal would be confusing. Instead of using the turn signal, we would use the override switch to tell the switch we want to go left.
Another example is going down 3rd ave. There are lots of switches on Third but since I drive the 14, I go all the way down 3rd. To avoid switching onto the wrong wire, I’ll set the override to "S", or straight, and then use my turn signals at will. That way, I am always put onto the straight wire even if I’ve got a turn signal going.
Make sense?
I also use the override switch on 3rd Avenue, as with "skip stops" you’re moving back and forth between left and right hand lanes. Using the override allows you to signal your lane changes without inadvertently activating switches that can shift your poles onto siding wire or worse – onto turn wire. I learned this lesson the hard way my first week driving trolleys when heading south on 3rd at Union (Benaroya hall). I signaled to move to the left to accomodate a cyclist in the right lane, and when I signalled back over – I sent my poles to the Pike Place Market while my bus continued on to the court house.
Not only did my poles jump the wires – they caught a cross-wire, and tore it down, tying up traffic on 3rd for about 20 minutes (actually a quick response time) until the line truck could make a repair.
I also use the bypass switch when operating the #10 when going from Bellevue Avenue to Pine Street, as you need to activate 2 Fashlabend switches in a row – one to go from Bellevue to Pine (right turn) and the other at Harvard (switch to the right-hand wire without signalling a turn to continue on Pine over Broadway).
Wish I had known this trick for the #10 on Thursday. I figured out that my poles were on the wrong wire before I dewired but had to jump out and do the switch manually. Doh!
Did you seriously mail that like that? If so, that is freakin’ hilarious!!
– Seen on your photo stream. ( ? )
the sad thing is, it didn’t even occur to me to go buy a new stamp rather than take the time to do this. doh!
