We’re thinking about adoption and I was wondering what lifestyles can affect the process. My husband had a DUI in his early twenties (we’re now mid-thirties) but other than that, no criminal history. I have a history of mental issues that I was medicated for in my mid twenties, but am now off all medication and wondering if I was misdiagnosed. We have a strong, but not extensive family support group. I’m worried that these issues would arise in our adoption process, can anyone help me or tell me how this would affect us? Thank you.

    Not sure….call social services.

Maybe there are children available that were taken away from their parents because the parents are going through what you went through.

    Ironic huh.

No, it will not be a problem. My husband and I both had issues with depression at one point in our lives – as far as the DUI – this should also not be a problem.

Independent – are you ok? You seem a little cranky today.

Let’s just say that possession of alcohol by a minor will not affect your ability to adopt twenty year later. I just know OK? I suggest you be completely open and honest about your past.
