Sounds like you’re worried about your “friend.” I don’t think your “friend” has to worry – the police will tell the DMV and the insurance company will hear from the DMV.

If there was only damage to his car, then you dont have to report it, unless he wants to use his insurance to cover his damage. However, if you leave it in the impound lot, they will lein the car, and can sell it at auction. The DUI arrest will suspend his license and require insurance notification, because you will have to have additionl insurance (called an SR-22 in some states).

in most states as soon as the department of motor Vehicles is notified they will contact the insurance company. Each state is different but normally around 30 days
now alot of insurance companies will not drop you until your policy expires and they will not renew you. But some will work with people that have had a DUI like Progressive.
Hope that Helps

If the car is in the impound lot, the police ordered the tow which means the insurance company will soon know about it if they don’t already since it’s on his record.

Trust me the authorities will be informing everyone of his mis-adventure.

You are not required to notify an insurance carrier for any violation. When you sign up for your policy. You are given a term. Generally 6 or 12 months. That means during that term, you rate cannot be adjusted unless at the beginning of the term, information was not issued correctly. Therefore, the insurance carrier will review his driving record when his insurance policy is up for renewal. In the event the DUI does not show, he will be lucky until the next renewal. When they do find out, they will not charge for previous dates. Just from the new renewal and on. A DUI will not show on a MVR until the violationis convicted with the courts. (Court Dates).
That should explain it
