Florida statute 318.14 (1)Any person cited for a violation of chapter 316 (STATE UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL) is charged with a noncriminal infraction and must be cited…….. (3) Any person who willfully refuses to accept and sign a summons (traffic citation) is guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree.
That means if you don’t sign the citation you most likely will be taken in and formally charged with a misdemeanor and have to post a bond. You will now have a crimianl record and in many jurisdictions cannot post bond until your fingerprints have cleared.
Signing is not an admission of guilt but a requirement by the State of Florida.
In Florida an officer cannot mark the ticket “refused to sign” like in other state.

Since then, Gini Graham Scott has written columns for improving society or oneself based on her experiences in getting her car stolen and returned after the thief was arrested, going to court for a red-light traffic ticket, and getting through a $ 5 toll booth with only $ 4.26 after a sympathetic booth operator let her go through the same day that an Italian lawyer was thrown in jail, because he forgot his wallet, couldnt pay his bill, and wasnt permitted to return to his hotel to get his money to pay.

Question by Yarin: Can a traffic warning increase insurance?
I was given a “courtesy ticket” (a warning) for an “unsafe movement” violation in North Carolina. I was told I wouldn’t need to visit court or pay anything. This month, I got my car insurance report and was charged $ 40 more. My husband’s car insurance was the same. I haven’t called the insurance company yet, but could the warning be the factor? I know the department keeps track of warnings for future pulls, but it’s not reported to the insurance company, right?
when I said “ask the insurance company”, I meant ask about the increase, not the ticket obviously I’m not mentioning that.

A warning should not have affected that. Usually, a warning is only put into the dept’s computer – and generally only stays active for 12 months (although, dept policy may vary).

Then, if you get stopped again, the next officer will know that you received a warning before. But, that’s as far as it goes.

It’s a warning – You did not have to pay anything. You did not enter a plea, etc.

A traffic stop in Plano ended unlike any you’ve ever heard about before. It started when Hayden Carlo was pulled over for an expired registration sticker. Carlo says he’s been struggling to support his wife and two small children. “You get paid, pay your bills, and there’s your money.
